I’ve read a few tweets and message board postings, a couple of fanfic stories and Facebook comments about spin-offs for One Tree Hill about Jamie and the kids or about Peyton, Lucas and Sawyer, or most recently Cheller and the twinterns, but I agree with creator Mark Schwahn. “I like the idea that the show is still there, we’re just not visiting every week. Tree Hill is still there and the characters are still doing what they do; we just don’t have the good fortune of being able to see them every week.”
So I don’t want to see what happens to them next. I think the series finale gave me the closure that I’d hoped for. Of course I’ll think back fondly on the memories of Tree Hill and once in a while I’ll wonder what my favorite characters are up to now. But what I really want to see, where I think there are stories that could still be told, is the past.
Is there anybody who wouldn’t want to understand what Karen ever saw in Dan? Who doesn’t want to see the look on Dan’s face when he showed up at the hospital and saw his big brother holding his baby? And of course we could all use a little more advice from the wise coach Durham…
Of course those scenes all appeal to the die hard fans who made OTH the little show that could. But don’t you think a show with cool retro costumes, (leather jackets, ripped jeans, the hair!) classic 80’s jams and of course plenty of drama would appeal to a wide range of people? I think a show like this could draw in all kinds of people, from the same generation as the adult characters we’ve grown to love to a whole new group of people who were the original target audience for OTH 9 years ago and of course all of the dedicated fans who have remained loyal for all 187 episodes.
The thing is I’m not a writer or producer but I think that if given a chance this idea could become someone’s favorite show, or at least second favorite show, after One Tree Hill of course. 😉 So if you know how to make this thing happen, or how to get this idea in front of someone who does let me know. Help me make my wish come true.
